Muscat's Grand Mosque is named for Oman's long ruling monarch, Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, who ordered its construction in his country's capital. It was an ambitious plan. It would be the largest mosque in Oman, and one of the largest in the world too. It took over six years to complete construction.
